Jolly Phonics

This week we have been busy learning the letter sounds ‘s’ and ‘i’. We have learned the Jolly Phonics songs, painted the letter sounds and traced the letter sounds with feathers in our multi-sensory trays. We also listened to and enjoyed the story of King March’s Ears, it’s a Welsh folktale. We will be learning the story in class with actions to help us re-tell the story.

Shake, Rattle and Roll!!

Happy New Year from Nursery and welcome back! This term our topic is ‘Shake Rattle and Roll’  Topic Newsletters will be available on the website next week so you can find out more about what we will be up to in class. This week we have been learning some of the Jolly Phonics songs to help us with our letter sounds, we have focussed on ‘S’ and ‘A’. We enjoy singing the little songs to go with each letter. You may want to practise them at home too. We have also been finding out about our feelings and how to express them appropriately. Next week we will be making a ‘Hug Jar’ each to take home, so we need as many jars with lids as possible please. A ‘ Hug Jar’ is a jar full of decorated hearts, when you need a hug you take a heart out and give it to the person you need a hug from. Aaaah.

Children in Need

Last Friday was Children in Need, we all dressed in yellow or wore our Pudsey Bear t-shirts and accessories, we had lots of fun. First we took part in Joe Wicks’ fitness routine and then we all had a healthy snack. There were yoghurts, flapjacks, fruit skewers, rice cracker crisps, cereal bars and raisins!!! Yum!! We managed to raise over £400 for Children in Need whilst enjoying ourselves too!

Fireworks!

Last week we were drawing pictures in our mark making books of Bon Fire night. We were learning how to draw a person with a head, eyes, nose, mouth, body, arms and legs. We tried really hard to hold the pencil correctly by pinching it between our thumb and index finger. Our pictures were smashing, some of us even drew our Mums and Dads watching the fireworks too.

Miss Walters helped us to paint firework pictures to take home! It was a busy first week back and a chilly one too, we need to remember to wear our coats, hats and scarves now that Winter is well and truly on its way.

Faithe the Fairy’s Birthday

Before the half-term holiday it was Faithe’s birthday we had so much fun at her 4th Birthday Party. The Little Red Hen and Fflic and Fflac came too. We had lots to eat and drink and played pass the parcel, Ezra and Imogen won a prize!!

There was a disco and party games. Faithe had a unicorn cake, we helped her to blow out the candles and she gave us all a party bag to take home.

Thank you Faithe for a lovely day.

Faithe the Fairy’s 4th Birthday Party

Faithe had a unicorn cake, we ate lots of party food, played pass the parcel and had a disco dance. Imogen and Ezra won the pass the parcel prize, well-done both!! Thanks to everyone for their support in this event, it was super!!

The Little Red Hen

This week we have been learning how to re-tell the story of the ‘Little Red Hen’. We have been using actions to help us re-tell the story. The ‘Little Red Hen’ left us a surprise in class, she gave each of us a picture of herself to colour in. We practised holding the pencils correctly and tried our best to colour in the lines. All our pictures are hanging on a washing line in class ready for the ‘Little Red Hen ‘ to collect!

Our Senses

Last week we found out about our sense of smell. We had lots of different pots with different things in them. There was strawberry jelly, mint, cheesy wotsits, pickled onions, tuna, salami sausage, rosemary, star anise, coffee powder, tea leaves and curry powder. We also played a smelling game where we had to guess what was in the pot by smelling it with a blindfold on. It was fun!!
