This week, we have worked really hard once again!

We explored our class’ story ‘The Gingerbread Man’ further and matched pictures to CVC words we found in the story. We have also enjoyed playing cvc and tricky word games like GOTCHA!

Days of the week, months of the year, times of the day – we know them all! We have been immersed into the concept of time this week and have been thinking about common and personal daily routines in our number sessions.

Moe from The Moe Show taught us the importance of crossing the road safely and we learnt about road signs that we see on car journeys. I wonder how many signs you can find in one car journey and if you can remember what they mean…

We are so excited for the Halloween disco next week!

Thanks for reading this week’s blog.

What a week!

Do you know the story ‘The Gingerbread Man’? Well, we definitely do after this week’s antics! We have been using role play and character masks to act out the story. We are loving it – except for that greedy fox!

Our number skills have been put to the test this week – we have been showing different ways of representing numbers 1-10. We have also been singing some number songs. I wonder if you know any of them…

1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive

5 little speckled frogs

5 little ducks

We have had a fire safety week in our classroom. Frances the Firefly taught us a valuable lesson about matches and we explored our indoor and outdoor area for things that could catch on fire and things that would be unsafe to touch.

We are looking forward to more fun learning next week!

Thanks for reading this week’s blog.

A very busy week in Reception!

We have turned ourselves into reading robots! We have loved using our robot arms to help us read words and then find the picture to match. Have you ever played Hanging Monkeys on Topmarks? It is our new favourite game.

Our number rhymes have helped us to remember how to write numbers 0-10 in beautiful rainbow colours. We also explored patterns in our classroom and Faithe even gave us some PANTS to decorate with a stripy pattern!

We had fun this week. Our favourite part was Fitness Friday – we laughed and had fun with zumba and Sonic the Hedgehog yoga. It made us feel really good!

Thanks for reading this week’s blog.

This week was Welsh week.

We held an Eisteddfod where we sang songs like Daw Hyfryd Fis and Cenwch y Clychau i Dewi. We did Dawnsio Gwerin to the song Jac y Do. We did this in our Welsh clothes.

We made lots of crafts like daffodils, leeks, Welsh dragons and we wrote sentences about why we are proud to be Welsh.

We spent lots of time and effort learning how to stitch and we created beautiful Wales inspired patches that we will be bringing home today. It was tricky to begin with, but once we got the hang of it, we were on a roll! It was hard work, but very worthwhile.

We made Welsh Cakes. We weighed the ingredients and mixed everything together. Then Miss Bowen cooked them for us. YUM!

We began the week by learning actions to go with our story ‘The Legend of King Arthur’ and we have started to innovate it. Next week, we will finish the innovations and write the story out.

3D shapes were the hot topic for our number sessions all week. Just ask us to sing the 3D shapes song, we know it off by heart!!!!

Terry visited us on Thursday to teach us all about Space. He took us all outside and he helped us launch rockets into the field. It was really, really fun! We also dressed up as astronauts. He showed us his robot friend called Meccanoid. He taught us facts like when something spins it creates its own gravity, and how the solar system works.

Did you know, Earth was created from 2 planets crashing together? There was a bit of rock that came out and became our moon.

Next week is the last week before half term, let’s make it a good one! 🙂

We hope you enjoyed our class assembly, we certainly did!

In the run up to our performance we practised our socks off!

We also made love spoons and wishes for St Dwynwen’s Day which was celebrated on the 25th of January. Our class assembly was on the 30th.

Money, money, money! We have been using our number bonds knowledge to help us find change from 10p, 20p, 50p, £10 and £20. We took away prices of items from the amount we started with.

In fitness Friday, we did not let the rain stop us from having a blast! We used mats to play a problem solving game. Have you heard of ‘The Floor is Lava’? We had to get our team from one side of the class to the other using only 2 mats! It was a challenge.

We also did some Welsh folk dancing. We needed to learn the moves and practise them, and then we performed the dance to Welsh folk music.

We’re excited to get back into our topic work. Space!!

Our story map is completed for The Legend of King Arthur! We have started to add actions to our story. We like this story because it is a Welsh tale and makes us proud to be Welsh.

We have been helping Mr Froggy in number this week. We needed to help him find the nearest 10 for him to rest on. We found out a special rule this week: If Mr Froggy lands on a number that ends in 5, he HAS to go to the bigger 10.

Our Dydd Santes Dwynwen assembly is coming soon to Alltwen Primary School! We have been practising for this assembly all week. It’s starting to look good!

Thank you for reading. We will see you next Thursday for our class assembly. 🙂

Blog 1 of 2020! 10.01.20

“Happy New Year! 2020!”

It’s a new year at Alltwen Primary. Our first week back has been brilliant, good, amazing, fabulous, fun and tiring. We have been doing lots of work in school.

We have been spelling and reading our tricky words. Miss Dorward and Miss Bowen are SUPER impressed with us and can see that we have been practising at home.

We have had new books for number and we have done a lot of place value, focusing on 2 digit numbers.

We have LIFT OFF of our new topic ‘Reach for the Stars’ which focuses on Space and Forces. We really like this topic, because we want to know more about Space. It’s going to be a good term.

We hope you have a happy new year. 🙂

Christmas concert fun! 13.12.19

Although it has been a MEGA busy week, we have been working really hard on our stories. We have nearly finished!

This week, we did not one, not two, not three, but FOUR Christmas concerts. We did ourselves, our friends and family, and our teachers SO proud. We spoke loudly and clearly, remembered our lines, sang our songs really well and clearly so our mums and dads could hear us, and most importantly, we had lots of fun!

Dwi’n hapus! Dwi wedi blino’n lan! Dwi’n poeth! Dwi’n drist achos we won’t be doing it again 🙁

Diolch i parents, friends and family for helping us out and supporting us with our concerts – we couldn’t have done it without you!

Have a great weekend!

This week, we have been innovating our class’ story ‘How the World was Made’. We have created lots of new stories, like Christmas, treasure, school, people, China and lots more. We also had a special day on Thursday celebrating our writing process and performing our story for our friends, teachers and families. We felt SO many emotions that day. We were nervous, excited, happy and scared.

In our number lessons, we have played lots of games, including ‘Ble mae pel?’. These games tested us on our positional vocabulary. We also played other games to help us develop our use of ‘clockwise’ and ‘anti-clockwise’. Please test us on our rights and lefts, we might surprise you!!!!!!

This week we have carried on doing LOTS of Christmas concert practice and we are getting SO good at remembering when to come on stage and remembering the lines before our own ones. It’s going to be an amazing show!
