This week was has been a little bit different. For three days we were taught by Mrs Bowen because Mr Hazel had important meetings. She was lovely!

We did some literacy work on adverbs and adverbial Phrase. It was quite difficult work but Mr Hazel had told Mrs Bowen we could handle it. He was right! We worked as hard as a worker ant carrying leaves to his nest (see – we really did work hard). We have also started working on imagery poems with Mr Hazel.

In maths we have been learning to tell time and find differences between times. This was also hard but we stuck at it and are now masters of time. AND WE CAN PROVE IT!!

One of the most fun lessons this week was a problem solving activity on Tudor Jewellery. We had to work systematically to figure it out. Fitness Friday was exciting this week because we walked to the community center and played dodgeball. It was AWESOME!

Next week is the last week before half term and our Homework Logs need to be in on Monday!

Friday 11th October 2019

Hello and welcome back to our brilliant blog.

On Monday we went down to Pontardawe Art Centre with year 3. We learnt about space, the planets and even met a robot. The robot was named ‘Mekimoid0’. He could do lots of different tricks like walk, dance, sing, karate, cwtch and talk. He was amazing!

We learnt that…

“the sun is a burning ball of gas that creates heat” Rocco

“there is no air in space because of a vacuum” Finn

“in a vacuum you cant hear anything” Aria

“the sun is a star” Erin

“that in space there is no gravity” Alfie Alexander

“that Pluto isn’t a planet anymore because it is so small” Deacon

At the end we got the chance to visit a space shuttle and get dressed up in space suits. It was a fab afternoon.

We also got to watch Wales beat Fiji in the Rugby World Cup and worked hard on multiplication and division in maths.

We completed a timeline for Tudor monarchs in our topic ‘Off With Her Head’ and researched what clothes Tudor people wore,

It’s been another fab week! Speak to you next time.

Year 4

Croeso nol – welcome back to the year 4 blog.

In literacy, our non-chronological reports are done. We enjoyed learning about the animals and really showed how excellent we are at writing. We used: our note taking skills to help us write ‘roaring’ not ‘snoring’ sentences; we added technical vocabulary; rhetorical questions; figures of speech (similes and metaphors); alliteration and some fantastic images. We had a roaring experience!

In maths we have done a bit of everything with numbers. We have added, subtracted, multiplied and divided. It’s been exhausting! We have also done lots of mental maths and are smashing TTRockstars.

In topic this week we have learnt all about how the Tudor family become the rulers of England and Wales. The Tudor family (The house of Lancaster) battled the Yorkist King Richard III’s army at Bosworth Field and defeated them to take the throne. King Henry the VII became King of England. We also used ICT to learn about his son – Henry VIII. Henry had six… yes that’s… SIX wives! We created databases on J2Data to learn all about the wives. We loved using the Chromebooks. We had a Tudor-tastic time 🙂

The weather has not been good this week but we are now great at talking about  Y Tywydd (the weather in Welsh). We definately need to learn ‘Mae hi’n bwrw glaw’ because it has been raining nearly ALL WEEK.

One of our favourite parts of the week was starting to watch Newsround at the end of every day. It is really interesting and will help us learn more about the world around us. We also enjoyed doing our Christmas cards this week. Although we though Mr Hazel had gone mad because its only October!!

Next week promises to be another fab week. You know where to come to hear all about it!

Year 4

What A Week! Friday 27th September 2019

Are you ready to read about our wonderful week? What a week it has been!

In English we have been learning about note taking so that we can write non-chronological reports. We are writing them about animals: polar bears, koalas, giraffes, lions and tigers. It’s been a blast.

In Maths we have been learning about mental addition and using number bonds, partitioning and place value to help us.

We have loved fitness Friday as always, doing circuit training with Sir. However, the most exciting part of the week has to be… our trip to Llancaiach Fawr Manor. It was out of this world. We visited the manor because our topic is Off With Her Head. We met real life Tudors (we know they were actors really but we didn’t want to hurt Mr Hazel’s feelings), we made apothecary bags with herbs, we had a tour of the amazing manor house, Fletcher got dressed up as a Tudor soldier and we also got to visit the museum and gift shop and even had dinner. Super! Hopefully, our next trip will be just as fantastic as this one.

Come back next week to hear what we have done.
